A 57-year-old Manitowoc man was arrested Sunday after allegedly threatening to hurt his wife with a decorative sword.
Officers responded at about 8:45 p.m. to the 1000 block of Green Street for a family-trouble call.
The man’s wife told officers she had been in the bathroom when her husband came in and took her phone. He reportedly accused her of cheating on him, threw her phone against a wall and damaged numerous household items.
The man then allegedly grabbed an approximately 4-foot-long sword off the wall. He began swinging it and yelling that he would “slit her throat” before leaving the residence, according to a police incident report.
The woman said she ran from the bathroom into her daughter’s room and held the door closed. Her daughter was home during the altercation.
Police spoke with the man at a residence in the 2200 block of South 10th Street. He said a family friend told him his wife was cheating on him and he became upset. The man admitted to knocking picture frames off the walls and destroying some items in the residence, but said the decorative swords were never touched.
A preliminary blood-alcohol test administered when police made contact with the man indicated an alcohol content level of .076.
The man was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence-related disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.
