Initially, Anne shelled out money to pay for the customs bills for luxury handbags the fake Pitt promised her.
After realizing she would part with large sums of money, the scammers took it a step further and claimed the actor was hospitalized with kidney cancer and needed money for treatment.
Fake Brad claimed he couldn’t access the funds himself due to the ongoing divorce with his ex-wife.
The victim was then sent faked images showing Brad confined to a hospital bed, and while her daughter did warn her she was being scammed, Anne was still convinced her “relationship” with the actor was the real deal.
Anne’s suspicions were finally aroused when pictures of Brad and his girlfriend Inès de Ramon began circling online, but by then, she said she had already forked out around $850,000.
Explaining why she had fallen for the scam, she told French broadcaster TF1: “There are few men who write to you like that. I loved the man I was talking to. He knew how to talk to women and it was very well put together.
“We’re talking about Brad Pitt here, and I was stunned,” she continued, before insisting: “At first, I thought it was fake, but I didn’t really understand what was happening to me.”
“I ask myself why they chose me to do such harm like this?” Anne said during her appearance on Sept à huit, adding: “I’ve never harmed anyone. These people deserve hell.”
