WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A woman from Wichita thought she had found her perfect match but ended up getting scammed out of thousands of dollars. Frank Annin is now on trial for scamming her and several other women.
Trisha, the alleged victim, said that in June 2022, she had just moved to the Wichita area and was looking for a relationship. When she found Frank Annin on eHarmony, a dating website, she had no reason to suspect anything was wrong.
Shortly after they connected, Annin asked Trisha to move off the app and start texting him. In hindsight, she recognized this as her first red flag.
“He was very sympathetic, and he was very kind,” she recalled.
However, the money requests soon started coming in. Trisha explained that Annin asked her to wire him money to pay off various people.
“He had told me that he was going to try to get off his job early, and to do that, he had to pay one of his coworkers to take over his portion of the job, and he requested that I send $7000 to his coworker,” Trisha explained.
Deep down, Trisha felt something was off. She began having reservations about the relationship and suspected she was being scammed.
“I said to him, please answer one question. Why would the man I talked to at Transatlantic Air and Ocean say he had never heard your name before?” said Trisha.
Annin’s lawyers argued that Trisha took too long to speak up.
“It’s not until late September that she takes action,” they said.
Trisha recounted that Annin seemed to realize she was catching on to him.
“Annin said, ‘I would never lie for any reason. I don’t even know how to lie,’” Trisha said while on the stand.
Things came to a head when Trisha went to the bank to wire $15,000, and the bank informed her that they would be closing her account.
“I got a call from the fraud department at Emprise Bank from a woman, saying that she was going to deny my request because she felt that it was fraud,” Trisha recalled.
When Trisha pressed Annin for answers, he stopped messaging her altogether. Now, she is searching for justice.
Testimony continues on Wednesday at the Sedgwick County Courthouse, where more of Annin’s alleged victims are expected to take the stand.
