We can’t get enough of First Dates – and there’s set to be an extra helping of both happy endings and awkward moments with the popular Channel 4 series now landing a spin-off.
Now, it’s the teens’ turn to find romance, with the brand new six-part series seeing 16-19 year olds going on the blind dates in a new Manchester location.
In a pandemic-hit world, singletons have had to rely on Tinder, Instagram DMs and Zoom calls to keep their dating life active – but the new series, set to air on E4, will now be an opportunity for teens to “put their phones in their pocket, escape from the pressures of social media and talk face-to-face with a potential match.”
A synopsis for the show reads: “They’ll be able to put their flirting to the test, but most importantly, take a journey of self-discovery.
“Through their own experiences and viewpoints, the teens will explore who they are, who they want to be, and what it takes to make the perfect connection with another person.”
As always, First Dates maître d’hôtel and series favourite, Fred Sirieix, will be back to oversee any blossoming romance, alongside the usual suspects Merlin Griffiths, CiCi Coleman and Grant Urquhart.
To ensure the safety of everyone taking part, the new spin-off has been filmed in line with Covid-19 protocols.
Speaking about his new venture, Fred explained: “We’re very excited to be opening the doors of our brand-new restaurant in Manchester to a clientele we’ve not served before – teens!
“We’ll be creating a warm and welcoming space for them to meet new people and hopefully make a connection.
“Most importantly, we will be looking after them like our own and will provide a space where they can just be themselves without any distractions from the outside world, or their phones! It’s going to be so much fun and I can’t wait to get started!”
