Bay Area EDM DJ Bassnectar accused of sex trafficking and child pornography | #tinder | #pof | #match | #sextrafficking

The Bay Area DJ known as Bassnectar, born Lorin Ashton, has been accused by two women of sex trafficking and soliciting explicit photos while the pair were minors, as revealed in a lawsuit obtained by Vulture.

The complaint filed in Tennessee alleges that Ashton used “his power and influence to groom and ultimately sexually victimize underage girls.” The women named in the lawsuit state that Ashton knew they were underage, messaged them on social media, requested explicit photos and invited them to hotel rooms where they had sex and received hundreds of dollars in compensation.

Ashton’s attorney denied the claims, telling Vulture in a statement, “These outrageous claims — which were clearly designed for the media, rather than for the courts — are completely without merit, and we eagerly look forward to proving so.”

Ashton was born in San Jose and grew up in the Bay Area, building a reputation within the Burning Man community and releasing his first album in 2001. As his audience grew, he toured across the world, playing at festivals like Bonnaroo and Coachella.

Allegations against the DJ began to surface on the Instagram account @evidenceagainstbassnectar beginning in June 2020. The account collected numerous social media posts and text message exchanges accusing Ashton of a pattern of abuse that was enabled by his staff. Red Light Management and C3 Presents are also included as defendants in the lawsuit, but had not responded to Vulture’s request for comment. After the Instagram account made headlines, Ashton issued an apology on Twitter in July, calling the rumors untrue but announcing he was stepping back from his career to take responsibility for his actions.
