While online dating was once seen as a last resort, it’s wildly popular now, with millions of singletons regularly using apps such as Tinder, Bumble and Hinge.
If you’re one of these users, you may be interested to hear that today is officially the busiest day for online dating, known as ‘Singles Sunday.’
David Vermeulen, CEO and founder of dating app The Inner Circle, explained: “We see a huge spike in activity on the first Sunday of the year as singles start to set new year resolutions and contemplate being single on Valentine’s Day.
“Singles have the best chance of getting a date and meeting someone in the new year if they are active on Dating Sunday.”
According to Match, today will see a 300% increase in dating app signups and a 200% increase in messages to be sent in just one day.
To celebrate, Match has revealed the best time to go on your favourite dating app today to bag yourself a date.
For Brits, the best time to go on your dating app is 23:00 this evening, while for those people in Spain the best time to log in is 14:00.
Meanwhile, Italy sees a peak in users at 20:00, France at 21:00, the Netherlands at 22:00 and Norway at 23:00.
If you’re planning to start swiping today, there are several things you can do to make sure your profile is as appealing as possible:
Start fresh – try out some new photos and make sure your first picture shows your true self
Fill in the blanks – make sure your profile is fully filled in, including a bio and several photos
Take a chance – keep an open mind, and try not to be too restrictive with your filters
Be active on a Sunday – Sundays are the most active days throughout the year, with a surge in activity between 21:00 and 23:00
Put down your phone – if you like someone on the app, ask them out! Don’t just restrict yourself to messaging on the dating app
