Bridgerton actor Rege Jean-Page has left viewers swooning over his character’s romance with Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and he says it’s not too far off from dating on Tinder.

The Shondaland-produced Netflix series arrived on Christmas Day and follows Daphne Bridgerton on her quest to find a suitable husband as the society season begins in Regency-era London. Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings (Jean-Page) becomes the object of her affections but the path to true love of course doesn’t run smooth.

One of the most stunning elements of Bridgerton are the dance sequences shown during the lavish ballroom parties.

Young debutantes like Daphne are often twirled and spinned between suitors, including the Duke of Hastings, making for some moments of sizzling chemistry.

Opening up about the dance routines, Jean-Page said on BBC Breakfast: ‘They’re glorious and they’re the heart of the piece.

‘The joy of the dances of this is that it’s a little bit like Regency Tinder, there’s some aggressive swiping left going on but also it’s the only place where people are allowed to be intimate with each other and be very honest with each other even though you’re in the view of the whole of society so there’s some real push and pull.’

He added of the dances: ‘Also they’re just fantasy wish fulfillment. They are gorgeous, beautiful romantic dances in the most incredible outlandish costume you can imagine in great big old castles and fireworks going off in the background.

‘They really have thrown everything at this just to give you some kind of wonderful escapism with no limits.’

Another major talking point of the series has been the sex scenes which leave little to the imagination.

Explaining their importance to the series, Dynevor recently told Metro.co.uk: ‘What was really important to me is that through this love story, Daphne’s finding herself and she’s finding out what she wants and needs as a woman.

‘So these moments are really essential for Daphne’s journey. She doesn’t know anything about sex or intimacy, it’s just something that was never talked about or discussed so she has no idea what that is.’

‘There is a sexual awakening aspect in it which I think is so interesting to watch as a modern audience because we were so connected now,’ she added.

Bridgerton is available to watch now on Netflix.
