The fallout from the racing integrity scandal continues with US TV personality Lana Condor pulling out of her scheduled Cup Day appearance, citing scheduling issues, as one sponsor made a six-figure donation to a horse-welfare fund.

Dating and networking app Bumble, which was due to host Condor on Melbourne Cup Day in its Birdcage marquee, announced the $130,000 donation to the Victorian racing industry’s Off The Track program to support the welfare and rehoming of retired racehorses on Monday.

A statement from Bumble said: “This decision is the brand’s way of taking action off the back of recent media showing cruelty to horses.”

Michelle Battersby, Bumble’s marketing director, Asia Pacific, said: “Bumble supports Racing Victoria and the Victoria Racing Club’s condemnation of the inhumane treatment of horses and we stand by a coordinated approach to the care of horses during racing events, as well as when their racing careers are over.”
