CHATTANOOGA — For the first time since 2009, the Chattanooga Mocs softball team opens a fresh season on its home turf at Jim Frost Stadium. Chattanooga welcomes in-state foe Austin Peay for a Sunday afternoon doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. with both games available for stream LIVE on the SoCon Digital Network.
Coming off a Southern Conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2019, Chattanooga was tabbed the league favorites in 2020 after the preseason poll was released last week. UTC boasts seven seniors including SoCon Preseason Player of the Year Aly Walker and Preseason Pitcher of the Year Celie Hudson.
Sunday’s doubleheader features ‘Defrost Frost’ and ‘National Pizza Day’ promotions. Fans can enter a blanket giveaway when entering the gates on Sunday with winners drawn every ½ inning. In addition, $1 hot chocolates will be sold at concessions throughout the day. The first 100 fans will also receive free pizza slices, courtesy of Papa John’s.
Tickets are on sale now for $6 and are general admission. UTC students are admitted FREE with a valid UTC ID.
Jim Frost Stadium and UTC Athletics enforce a ‘Clear Bag Policy’ for fans in attendance. For more details on acceptable items and bag sizes, please click HERE.
· Chattanooga leads the all-time series over Austin Peay, 8-1. The Govs won the last meeting, 1-0, on April 4, 2018 inside Jim Frost Stadium. UTC was picked first in the preseason SoCon poll while Austin Peay was predicted to finish fifth in a strong Ohio Valley Conference (OVC).
· Chattanooga opens at home for the first time since 2009 and just the fifth time in program history, dating back to 1994. UTC won four out of the five season-opening games at home.
· Chattanooga boasts seven seniors including a trio of fifth-year players in Emma Sturdivant, Katie Corum and Morgan Kazerooni. Aly Walker, Celie Hudson, Hayleigh Weissenbach and Amy Lewis round out the senior class.
Chris Goforth (PxP) and Michelle LaCourse (Color) will call the game LIVE from Jim Frost Stadium. Video links are located on the schedule page or by clicking, HERE. Live stats are also available on the schedule page or by clicking, HERE.
