Cheadle man assaulted ex-girlfriend in ‘appalling’ assault

Violent James Emery locked his ex-girlfriend in his flat and subjected her to an ‘appalling’ assault.

The victim escaped through a window and fled barefoot to a friend’s house after she was repeatedly punched by Emery.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the 36-year-old broke his ex’s tooth, and ripped her clothing to ‘humiliate and degrade’ her.

Prosecutor David Bennett said: “The parties had been in a relationship for four years and separated around November last year. The complainant says she left the defendant due to his violent outbursts when intoxicated.
