When someone flags you down on a Houston highway, do you roll down your window? What if they pointed to your back tire? Would you pull over and talk then? In some cases, it could be the beginning of a common scam.
Two common scams are known as the “wobbly wheel” and cosmetic repair scam, according to information from the Houston Police Department’s Major Offenders Division and its Southwest’s division via a posting on NextDoor.
Both scams involve a person or small group pulling up to a driver instructing them to pull over because they noticed something wrong with their car. At some point, the scammer will convince the victim to pay for work that never gets done.
