Country star Michael English has confirmed he’s still single – but he won’t be setting up a profile on Tinder or Hinge any time soon.
The Kildare native told RSVP Live that before the pandemic, he wasn’t able to date because he was always touring.
Now he’s been grounded in Ireland for the past 18 months, but Covid restrictions have prevented him from getting out there and meeting someone in real life.
“It’s true that I’ve had a little bit more free time to myself, I’m not rushing off to play in England or Spain,” he said.
“When you’re away for a month, two months, it’s very difficult to have a relationship, I’d feel bad doing that to somebody.
“I feel sorry for some of the guys who have kids. I know they wouldn’t have it any other way but it’s difficult when you are touring.
“And now the one time that I have the free time, you’re not allowed to meet up with anyone! Is there someone up there who’s like ‘No Michael, hold on there! Stop!'”
When asked if he’d trying any dating apps, he said: “I wouldn’t really go on the dating apps. I’d prefer to go out, when we’re allowed, and have a pint. Maybe that’s old-fashioned but I wouldn’t be into the apps.”
The singer has also given up social media as he found it was taking up too much of his time.
“I don’t use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…I just gave them up,” he went on.
“I was going to bed at night and I was an hour on Facebook, and I was waking up in the morning and I was another half an hour on it.
“I know it’s a bit strange, but I get on grand without it and I’m not looking at my phone 24 hours a day! And I’m more productive too!”
