A new study published in journal Psychological Science states A computer algorithm can’t predict a Romantic attraction between two people. The dating sites which claim that computer algorithms and artificial intelligence can be used to predict the similarities between people and romantic attraction proved wrong by the new study.
The University of Utah conducted an investigation on how a computer can analyze the two people’s relationship. These dating sites like match.com analyze the data uploaded by individuals and matches with exact other. If the number of matches is more in number, then they are said to be the best pair and arrange a four minutes date which is called Online dating.
Samantha Joel, a University of Utah psychology professor and a lead author said “Attraction for a particular person may be difficult or impossible to predict before two people have met. A relationship is more than the sum of its parts. There is a shared experience that happens when you meet someone that can’t be predicted.”
Joel and her colleagues considered a machine-learning algorithm to know whether it can predict the romantic attraction between two people and the answer was ‘no.’
“We found we cannot anticipate how much individuals will uniquely desire each other in a speed-dating context with any meaningful level of accuracy. I thought that out of more than 100 predictors, we would be able to predict at least some portion of the variance. I didn’t expect we would find zero,” Joel said.
They tend to say that a romantic or physical attachment can only be formed when two people meet each other, not by just matching their profile. A dating algorithm can’t predict how the life can be whether a person likes the opposite person or not. Describing the online restrictions Joel said, “they don’t let you bypass the process of having to physically meet someone to find out how you feel about them.”
So the new study finalizes that simply dropping data into a computer will not create a romantic attraction to the people. They need to meet and talk for any the things to understand about each other.
