#datingscams | Police say Stoney Creek man impersonated an officer to pull off online dating scam

Toronto police say they’re worried about the possibility of more victims, after a Stoney Creek man was arrested and charged in an online romance scam.

Officers say Raymond Coles, 49, contacted a 38-year-old woman through a dating website in January of 2018.

He allegedly identified himself as a police officer and started a relationship with the woman.

Once they were dating, officers say Coles scammed her for financial gain.

Coles was arrested on Tuesday and charged with fraud over $5,000 and personate a peace officer.

Officers think he may have involved other woman in similar scams, they’re urging anyone with information to get in touch with them.
