Dean Gaffney ignores lockdown rules again as he asks woman to meet him for indoor date | #dating | #datingcovid | #covid

Dean Gaffney has been messaging a woman he met online to ask her to meet up with him for an indoor date during lockdown.

The former EastEnders star, 42, has been messaging someone he matched with on a dating app about getting together for a date, despite the fact that the nation is in a third lockdown.

The woman, named Christy, exclusively told the Mirror that the actor had matched with her on numerous dating apps before messaging her directly on Instagram.

She told us she was “disgusted” that Dean would break the rules to meet her for a date, and that she had tried to let him down gently.

But his representatives have insisted the whole thing was just “banter” and said that he terminated the exchange when it was pointed out to him that meeting might breach the rules.

Of course, it was Christy who pointed that out to him.

While they’ve matched on a number of dating apps, she said the most recent was on Bumble around four to five weeks ago, and that Dean asked for her Instagram handle.

She gave it to him and didn’t hear a thing for weeks until he suddenly started messaging her through DMs yesterday.

Dean, who played Robbie Jackson on the BBC soap, began his messages to the 30-year-old by wishing her a “Happy belated new year” and as soon as she responded he asked: “When we meeting lol”

Christy joked that because of the priority list for vaccinations she wouldn’t have hers until December 2021.

And she told him that him she wasn’t able to meet outdoors anyway after breaking her ankle.

Former Celebs Go Dating star Dean laughed and briefly moved on, asking her questions about her Instagram bio before they chatted about their children.

When Dean said he had 24-year-old twins, blonde bombshell Christy asked how old he was, saying he didn’t look old enough to have kids that age.

He thanked her but didn’t tell her how old he was, and then asked her if she was meeting up with anyone in lockdown.

She replied: “Kind of?” with a laughing emoji, but then explained that she wasn’t currently able to venture far because of her broken ankle.

He then suggested he would go round to her house, telling her to “put the kettle on” and that he’d be there on Sunday, adding a laughing emoji.

“No meetings indoors remember,” she reminded him, but he responded: “Don’t worry about all that… to cold to meet outdoors x” [sic]

The woman told him she wasn’t willing to risk meeting with him as if she were to get sick with Covid-19 there would be no one to look after her children.

He questioned that she would get sick if they met up but she told him she wasn’t willing to take any risks with her health.

He said: “That’s fine just confused how meeting me outside is different to meeting me for a coffee? No worries babes. X”

She told him: “Because transmission rates outside are negligible. Transmission rates in enclosed spaces are drastically higher. That’s why there’s a lockdown that enables people to meet outside but it’s currently against the law to meet inside.”

Dean did not respond to her.

The current guidelines ask people to stay at home unless they absolutely have to leave, with a list of pre-approved reasons including going to work if you cannot work from home, going shopping for food, and for childcare reasons.

The Government website states: “You cannot leave your home to meet socially with anyone you do not live with or are not in a support bubble with (if you are legally permitted to form one).”

Christy said: “I’ve got young kids, I wouldn’t let a stranger in my house at the best of times, let alone a pandemic.”

She added: “Nobody can look after my kids if I get coronavirus, not to mention it’s actually illegal, so I was trying to gently say ‘No I’m not going to meet up with you’ and the fact he immediately said he’d just come round my house was unbelievable.”

She said it wasn’t getting fined she was concerned about, it was the safety of herself and her children, saying she’d barely seen anyone for the last year because of the pandemic.

She said: “I don’t even go to supermarkets, I do it all online, so the fact he thinks I’m going to meet a stranger when I don’t even see my own dad is nuts.”

Dean has broken the lockdown rules before.

In June last year, Dean attended a raucous party with strippers in Huddersfield, and posed up for a group photo that was posted on social media by one of the attendees.

He could be seen in the picture surrounded by almost 40 people.

Then in August 2020, Dean was called out on social media by his EastEnders co-star Jamie Borthwick for partying in Ibiza.

Dean uploaded a picture of himself with his pals on the Spanish island, resulting in an awkward exchange with Jamie, who plays Jay Brown.

After Dean captioned a picture with “Never alone,” Jamie commented: “Accept at party’s surrounded by onlyfans girls when there’s 1k dying a day.” [sic]

Michael Greco, who also used to star in the soap, broke up the feud by writing: “Although it’s Except not Accept,” alongside laughing emojis.

Jamie wrote back: “Haha Grecs is right, Borths miles off it.”

While Dean joked: “Haha LOVE this Grecs love this! Touché Jamie x.”

After the Mirror contacted Dean’s representatives for comment at 9.08am, the actor began messaging Christy again at 10.47am asking her to retract her story and insisting that his suggestions to meet up were just “banter”.

A representative for the star told us: “This was private banter between two adults. It is important to make clear that no rules were broken. There was never any intention for Dean to travel anywhere to meet anyone.

“We all know that the regulations have changed numerous times and as soon as it was pointed out to Dean that any meeting might be a breach of the rules he terminated the exchange.”
