While the marriage rate in Iran is on decline, the frequency of divorces is gaining momentum, Director of Statistics and Population Information at the Iran Civil Registration Organization Mohammad Ali Mahzoun said.
He said these days 23.6 cases of divorce are registered for each 100 marriages, IRIB news agency reported September 13.
The official added the number had been 6.3 divorce cases two decades ago and 8.3 cases one decade ago.
Last year 163,000 cases of divorce were registered in Iran, Mahzoun said.
Also, last Iranian year (March 21, 2014 to March 20) 724,000 marriages were registered, whereas the number had been 891,000 for 3 years earlier.
The latest report by the Civil Registration said September 1 that in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year, the divorce rate jumped by 11.5 percent as 69,182 cases were registered.
The report added that 297,624 marriages were registered in the meantime, showing 3.3 percent rise compared to the same period last year.
