The rape trial of former Tennessee cornerback Michael Williams is being delayed again.
Williams was scheduled to go on trial next week, but Knox County Criminal Court Judge Bob McGee said Tuesday that a motions hearing involving the case will be held next week instead. A new trial date hasn’t been announced.
Williams and former Tennessee linebacker A.J. Johnson each face two counts of aggravated rape. Knoxville police say the incident occurred Nov. 16.
Johnson’s trial is scheduled for June 27.
Williams’ trial previously was delayed after McGee granted a motion for subpoenas allowing lawyers for Williams and Johnson to obtain cellphone and social media communications with certain witnesses. Prosecutors filed a motion to quash those subpoenas, and that motion will be discussed at next week’s hearing.
