Step aside Facebook Dating, this one’s for the couples-only out there, and it looks fresh and fantastic, to be honest. Only available in iOS for now but will soon be hitting Android sooner rather than later.

What’s The Scoop

Facebook has created a new app exclusively for lovebirds out there called Tuned. It allows couples to send messages, exchange music, and create fun digital scrapbooks of themselves.

This app was created by Facebook’s New Product Experimental Team, which focuses heavily on building new social media from the ground up. The app claims to be for privacy and what not but does not appear to have the end-to-end encryption of services that WhatsApp has.

Tuned uses the same data policy as Facebook, allowing the company to collect communications and other behavior which targets advertising towards the user. The app is only available in iOS users located in the United States and Canada in the meantime. It does not require you to have a Facebook account to use it, which to be perfectly honest, who doesn’t have Facebook, really.

This app was intended for couples who want “private space” from all the annoying clutter of social media apps and focus solely on their partner, which is not a bad idea, especially in this digitalized world.

This also connects to Spotify to share their love for music, and since music is universally loved, it’s a feature that lacks from other dating apps, regardless if this isn’t a dating app per se but the complete opposite.

Facebook has announced to the world that it was entering the dating scene way back in 2018. Since then, it has launched a dating app to rival Tinder and bumble in over 20 countries to date. The new product, however, doesn’t have much difference from other messaging services, but it still is an excellent way to converse to your one and only.

Tuned allows users to add another person using their phone number and, once connected, can send pictures, voice memos, and whatnot. The app also has new custom reactions that couples can send to one another, which is a cool feature to have.

What Sparked The Creation of Tuned

Facebook was able to form the group that created the app named the New Product Experimental Team or NPE last summer 2019. The goal for the team was to develop new social media services that would be seen as a hit as well as useful to the eyes of consumers. It has also built a meme creation tool as well as an app for saving and organizing photos just like Pinterest.

There is, however, a stern warning from Facebook that if the team’s apps were not up to par with Facebook, they would be “shut down if we learn that they’re not useful to people.”
