Facebook’s Messenger app logo is getting a colorful facelift, signifying to users that the app is also compatible with Instagram, and symbolizing the parent company’s strategy to evolve the platform beyond text exchanges.

The Mark Zuckerberg-led tech conglomerate is rolling out an update that will infuse vibrant tones into the message bubble icon, which has looked virtually the same for seven years.

The updated Messenger app icon will pick up some of the vibrant sunburst tones from the Instagram app while retaining some of Facebook’s familiar sky blue hue.

The refreshed logo with a gradient of purple, pink and orange “reflects a shift to the future of messaging,” Facebook said in a blog post. It also meant to demonstrate Messenger’s shift to powering conversations on Facebook’s video communication device Portal and virtual reality headset Oculus.

“Today, Messenger gets a new look to mark our continued evolution from a simple way to message your Facebook friends, to a place to hang out with your favorite people, on your favorite apps and devices,” Facebook said.

The company has revamped its Messenger app in recent months, launching features such as “joinable” group video calls and more engaging ways to watch videos with family.

Messenger recently added cross-app communication with Instagram, which will be rolled out to most users in North America soon, the company says.

It also has enabled people to visually enhance their conversations with new chat colors and themes. Facebook is also rolling out Vanish Mode, which acts like messages on Snapchat. If you activate the mode, written messages will disappear after they’ve been seen or after you exit the chat.
