A social media influencer is live-streaming as series of virtual blind dates on Instagram, with the men being selected by her friends.
Urszula Makowska, 25, from New York is in quarantine along with most of America and she asked her closest friends to log into her account on dating app Hinge to choose men they think are suited to her.
She decided to take the bold step after a catfishing experience on Tinder in 2019 left her with trust issues.
Makowska met ‘Lucas’ on the dating app and when she tried to see him in person he confessed he’d been tricking her as part of what he said was a “social experiment”. The influencer spoke about the traumatic experience on MTV’s Catfish TV show in August in 2019.
To say her 225,000 followers are rooting for her to find love by leaving the choosing to her friends in an understatement, watching the dating live-stream in droves.
Makowska doesn’t know anything about her date until it begins and then at the end of each date her followers and a friend who is a dating coach tell her if they think she should go on a second date.
“This is not only entertaining but a great way for me to meet someone that may end up being my partner, learn more about myself, help others learn more about themselves and also promote the importance of staying home at this time due to the circumstances,” she said.
The blind dates stream each Sunday at 7.30pm EST.
She said so far she has enjoyed the dating process but has not yet found love but quarantine provide the perfect opportunity to dip her toe back into the dating world again.
“Most of us are quarantined in and swiping on our dating apps,” she said.
“I don’t know my date’s name, what he looks like or really anything about him until our first date in front of a live audience on my Instagram.
“There are twists during the live and ultimately the audience decides if there will be a second date.”
