Harris, Horton Named Office Depot/Supra Student-Athletes of the Week

PITTSBURGH – Dayshanette Harris of women’s basketball and Ithiel Horton of men’s basketball were named the Office Depot/Supra Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Harris continued her strong start to the season Sunday afternoon at Florida State as she netted a team-high 18 points, three rebounds and three assists across 32 minutes of work. The sophomore point guard was Pitt’s leading scorer for the third straight game while going an efficient 7-for-14 from the floor and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe. It marked the second straight game Harris has shot at least 50 percent from the floor, the first time she has done so in back-to-back games in her career.
For the season, Harris is averaging a career-high 16.0 ppg, 5.8 rpg and 5.3 apg while scoring in double figures in all six games this season and in 13 straight dating back to last season. She is currently one of two players in the ACC (Dana Evans, Louisville) to rank inside the top-10 in both scoring and assists. Harris ranks second in the conference in assists (5.3 apg) and eighth in scoring (16.0 ppg).
Horton scored 18 points to go along with two rebounds, two assists and a steal as Pitt snapped an eight-game ACC road losing streak with a 70-55 win at Miami. The Vauxhall, N.J., native recorded all his stats in the second half of play, going 6-of-8 from the field, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 from the foul line. The Panthers’ used a 19-3 run to break the game open after Miami took a one-point lead with 15.45 remaining in the game.
