Hartwick College has named a new Director of Global Education.  And she comes to the City of the Hills in New York from another famous City of the Hills….Edinburgh, Scotland (by way of Lima, Peru)!

Patricia Sagasti Suppes, PhD, has been named the new director of Global Education at Hartwick College, Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs Barbara J. Feldman, PhD, announced today.

Sagasti Suppes, who assumed the role in late May, comes from Cormack Consultancy Group of Edinburgh, Scotland where she developed new partnerships and existing connections between higher education institutions in the U.S. and abroad. She previously served as director of International Programs and Experiential Term at Ferrum College in Virginia, where she was an associate professor of Spanish and program coordinator of Spanish, Russian, and French.

“Dr. Sagasti Suppes brings Hartwick a great deal of experience in international programming and student recruitment,” Feldman said. “I am particularly excited about her experience with and commitment to supporting international students to make their transition and experience on campus positive and successful.”

Hartwick’s Global Education office oversees the College’s signature off-campus J Term program, and also administers semester-long study abroad programs, the Duffy Ambassadorships, Emerson International Internship Scholarships, and the Cyrus Mehri ’83 Global Pluralism Fellowship. Global Education staff also advise international students, and promotes community-based service learning initiatives.

“I’m honored to be part of the welcoming community at Hartwick College, and I’m excited about the opportunities to grow the Global Education program,” Sagasti Suppes said. “A cross-cultural perspective is so important in today’s world, and I look forward to working toward making an international education an integral part of every student’s Hartwick education.”

A native of Lima, Peru, Sagasti Suppes holds doctoral and master’s degrees in Romance Languages and Literatures from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and is working toward a Certificate in Higher Education Leadership and Administration from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst.
