A Highland man is charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl he met through an online dating service.
Jordan V. Al-Akel, 25, was charged Monday in Lake Criminal Court with rape, criminal confinement and strangulation.
The girl reported the sexual assault to police Feb. 24, according to court records.
She told detectives she met a man in July through the MeetMe dating phone application.
She said the man told her he was 18 years old and they agreed to meet Aug. 19 for a date. She said the man who picked her up from her home in Chicago did not match his photo on the dating service. The man, who said he was 24 years old, drove her to an apartment in Highland.
She said the man drank alcohol and tried to get her to drink, but she refused. She said he took her to the bedroom, where he held her down and sexually assaulted her, records state.
The woman said she got dressed afterward, but the man said “Do you think I’m done with you yet?” records state.
The woman said he sexually assaulted her again and fell asleep, records state. She said the man did not drive her back to her home until the next morning.
The phone number the suspect used to communicate with the girl was registered to Al-Akel, records state. The girl also identified the defendant’s apartment in the 3200 block of Saric Court in Highland as the location where the sexual assault occurred.
A warrant was issued Monday for Al-Akel’s arrest, authorities said.
His surety bond is $150,000, records state.
