A South Australian woman and her skeptical husband are now $1 million richer thanks to a last-minute decision on Monday night.

The woman from Ardrossan, about 150km from Adelaide’s CBD, said she has been playing Lotto’s Set for Life for seven years but out of the blue decided to purchase a ticket for the Monday & Wednesday X Lotto draw.

“Something came across me last night to put a ticket on for Monday & Wednesday X Lotto,” she told lottery officials on Tuesday morning.

“Funnily enough, I also won $1000 on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket last week.”

The woman said she only realised she was the lucky holder of the winning ticket when she logged into The Lott app on Tuesday morning. Her husband was reluctant to believe the news and initially thought it was a scam.

“I woke up my husband in a frenzy, and I said, ‘I think we’ve won a million dollars!’. He turned to me and said, ‘That sounds like a scam!’,” she said.

“We were going back and forth with each other, and I was telling him that it’s not a scam.

“We even looked up the Monday & Wednesday X Lotto draw from last night [Monday night] to see if the winning numbers matched ours.”

The woman said she had been too scared to tell anyone the news and had been awaiting a call from officials to confirm the life-changing win.

“I’ve been too scared to say anything in case it wasn’t real,” she said.

The mother said she’s now going to use the $1 million to travel and renovate the house.

“We (would) love to buy a brand-new caravan and travel around Australia,” she said.

There were three division one winning entries in the Monday & Wednesday X Lotto drawn on Monday night.
