SINGAPORE – One of billionaire Peter Lim’s former son-in-laws was sentenced on Tuesday (10 May) to a jail term of two years and 10 months, for several offences, including his involvement in an illegal gambling syndicate.

Kho Bin Kai, the ex-husband of socialite Kim Lim, Peter’s daughter, was also given a fine of S$40,000.

The 32 year old had pleaded guilty to three charges under the Remote Gambling Act and two counts of dealing with the benefits of criminal conduct.

Kho was married to Kim for three years before they divorced in 2020, after Kho was charged in court in 2019. Kho was her first husband and they have a five year old son.

The Strait Times reported that Kho was linked to multiple illegal gambling websites, earning an average of between S$30,000 and S$40,000 a month from one of them alone.

The court heard that Kho, a Singaporean, started dabbling in illegal gambling since 2012, by becoming an illegal football betting agent. Later in 2016, he joined 4-D and Toto “business” of a Malaysian known as “Ah Leong”.

Kho began acting as a master agent for a gambling website in April 2017. He took 10 per cent commission, and also agreed to a position taking 90 per cent of the centralised pot for all tickets on the website.

He later took on other master agent accounts for illegal gambling sites.

Among the items Kho used the criminal proceeds on were for the purchase of an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore watch, and partial purchase of a diamond-encrusted Rolex.

His offences came to light when police raided his home on 28 July 2019. He was arrested then.

The court set Kho’s bail at S$50,000. He is expected to surrender himself to the State Courts on 23 May.
