BRADLEY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a new scam their residents are seeing. It’s a road paving scam, and it’s happening in McMinn County as well.
According to the sheriff’s office, several citizens have witnessed two men in a work truck full of traffic cones, claiming to be from the road department. Those scammers are telling residents that they are required to re-pave the county’s portion of the utility right-of-way. Meaning, the scammers tell the residents they must repave the portion road connected to their property.
They then say the property owners are required to pay for their section.
Furthermore, the scammers tell residents if they do not pay upfront, they will be summoned to court. This creates a sense of urgency, making it more likely for people to fall for the scam.
“Don’t fall victim to these scams,” the sheriff’s office said on their Facebook post. “When in doubt, contact your local law enforcement agency.”
