Cadbury and Which? warn of fake Easter Egg basket scam | #whatsapp | #lovescams | #phonescams

People have been warned not to be duped by a message claiming to offer a ‘Cadbury FREE Easter Chocolate Basket’. The message has been circulating on WhatsApp and has come to the attention of consumer watchdog Which? and Cadbury.

Which? has said: “We’ve been made aware of a fake message spreading through WhatsApp using Easter as a hook to get recipients to click through to a website that has nothing to do with Cadbury. Here’s what you need to watch out for”.

It posted an image of the message, which you can see further down this article. It appears from twitter that some people did fall for it.

Cadbury also wrote: “We’ve been made aware of circulating posts on social media claiming to offer consumers a free Easter Chocolate basket. We can confirm this hasn’t been generated by us & we urge consumers not to interact. Your security is our priority & we’re currently working to resolve this.”

One person on twitter said they had fallen for it. They wrote: “Sadly saw this too late. Sent and received lots of messages. Passwords changed, just in case.”

Which? has said such scams try to encourage people to click through to a third party website that has nothing to do with the brand. This could ask you to put in personal information, including bank details. Which says: f you think you’ve given sensitive information away to fraudsters, let your bank know what’s happened immediately.”
