Eyota, MN (KROC-AM News)- Deputies from the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office responded to a drug overdose on an I-90 exit ramp near Eyota over the weekend.

Captain James Schueller says the call for service came around 7:20 Sunday morning from the off-ramp from I-90 west to Hwy. 42 south of Eyota. First responders reported seeing the unresponsive drug overdose victim lying on his back on the ramp.

Emergency personnel issued two nasal doses of Narcan and loaded the man onto a gurney. The victim, described as a 20-year-old White Bear Lake man, then began to move his arms.

Schueller said Mayo 1 responded to the overdose, however it’s unknown if the overdose victim was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital by ambulance or by his own accord. Two men traveling with the victim told deputies they were traveling to White Bear Lake from La Crosse when the man began smoking a substance that later field-tested positive for heroin out of a piece of tinfoil in the vehicle’s backseat.

In route to responding to the overdose call, Eyota first responders reported seeing a man wearing a backpack and walking north along Hwy. 42. Schueller said deputies caught up with the subject at the Eyota Kwik Trip, tried to interview him, but reported the man did not give any identifying information before being released.

It’s unclear if the man had been riding in the same vehicle as the overdose victim. Schueller said the overdose victim’s condition was unknown as of Monday morning.
