How the Daily Post scammed the Facebook fake romance scammers | #datingscams | #lovescams | #facebookscams

A 60-year-old widow was almost scammed out of £4,200 of her inheritance money in a Facebook romance scam. Or was she?

No. Because that ‘widow’ was me.

I’m not 60 years old, I’m not a widow. But that information was all it took to convince an online scammer that I was an easy target.

Last month I met with a real victim of an online scam, and her story stuck with me.

This woman, who was still grieving the sudden loss of her beloved husband, had fallen in love with a man she thought was a senior ranking member of the United States Army.

Over the course of six months, the scammer convinced the 66-year-old to send him in excess of £12,000 by telling her he needed money for his son’s medical bills.

It got me thinking – how easy is it for these scammers to find vulnerable women online, and how easy would it be for me to pose as one?
