Although it is an unusual side hustle, anyone can do it from the comfort of their living room. One woman from London has told Express.co.uk how she saved £35,000 last year alone.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, blogger Di Coke explained she began entering competitions in the late 1990s.
Di explains: “I was keen to go to music festivals but wasn’t earning much money, so I started entering postcard competitions in the NME and Q Magazine.
“I won loads of Glastonbury and Reading tickets, plus VIP backstage passes for my friends.”
Fast forward 25 years and she’s turned comping into a career – running her blog www.superlucky.me and associated Facebook group where she helps others replicate her fortunes.
What’s more, anyone can make money this way and Di is happy to help others follow in her footsteps, although she insists it takes persistence and dedication.
“I set up SuperLucky to help people get started with comping, and show them that it’s a fun and cheap hobby to have.
“Sometimes it feels like competitions have taken over my life, but it’s incredibly rewarding to help people win their dream prizes – as well as occasionally win my own dream prizes too!
“I still get excited about every win, even the small ones!”
She also recommends joining a comping community such as Lucky Learners on Facebook, where people can pick up valuable advice.
“Watch out for the wrong kind of competitions – be vigilant and aware of scams, which can pop up on Facebook, Instagram, email or text messages,” she warns.
“If something doesn’t seem right, don’t click links and don’t share any personal details.
“Be wary of cloning, this is where a fake Instagram account gets in touch to notify someone of a win. Only enter competitions websites and social media pages of trusted companies.”
To be in with a chance of winning similar prizes, Di recommends putting in at least an hour’s work a day.
She said: “Nothing beats the thrill of a winning telephone call, Twitter DM or email – particularly when it’s a prize I really wanted.
“I’ll never forget when I won our family a trip to Florida on Heart FM – the look on my son Ryland’s face was priceless.
“I love it when SuperLucky readers tell me about their amazing wins.
“They’ve won cruises, cars, weddings, and even £60k cash…although my favourite message was from Katrina who won IVF treatment and is now a proud mummy.”
