A newborn baby is understood to be being treated in hospital after being found dumped in a garden waste bin. It is understood a neighbour alerted emergency services after hearing crying coming from the bin in Grimsby.
When they checked it out they are believed to have found the boy surrounded by grass cuttings. It is thought he still had his umbilical cord attached.
According to Grimsby Live emergency services were called to the town’s Nunsthorpe estate at about 5pm on Sunday. The baby was found inside a brown garden waste bin.
It has been reported that a worried resident heard crying from inside the bin. They made the find after opening the lid to investigate.
According to reports the baby’s young mother has been found. She was also taken to hospital and is now in the care of relevant authorities.
After being alerted just before 5pm on Sunday there was a large response by Humberside Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service. At least four police cars and vans were at the scene along with two ambulances.
Police officers were seen conducting house to house enquiries and interviewing residents. The quiet Nunsthorpe estate street is home to families and retired people in semi-detached and terraced homes.
One resident told Grimsby Live: “The mum must have been too young to understand or did not want anyone to know she was pregnant. We only hope she gets the care she needs and her baby.”
Paramedics were on the scene within minutes and a police cordon was constructed. An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 4.58pm on June 19, to a private address in Grimsby. The caller reported a medical emergency. We sent two crewed ambulances and two patients were taken to Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.”
Humberside Police said they could not give any more details other than the statement provided to GrimsbyLive on Sunday. That statement read: “Officers are in attendance at a property on Winchester Avenue following reports of concerns for safety earlier this evening (Sunday 19 June). Assistance has been provided to those concerned. There are no issues or risks to the wider community.”
