NORTH Wales Police is warning people of increased reports of a Facebook marketplace scam.

The force said it is seeing “more reports” of people being scammed when selling high value items on social media.

Offenders are attending victim’s houses to buy the item and showing a fake banking app showing a complete transaction. The offenders then leave with the item before the victims realise they have not been paid.

Police have issued the following guidance:

Before parting with any items, make sure that the transfer has come across by checking your own banking application or PayPal, the funds should transfer immediately.

Do not release any items unless you have received the funds, if they are a genuine buyer they will always be willing to wait, return or pay cash.
