Police caution the public about ‘romance scams’ | #lovescams | #datingapps

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to caution anyone looking for love on the internet.

Don’t let scammers break your heart… or your bank.

Here are some safety tips to avoid online romance scams:

– Be cautious of people who quickly profess their love or who try to move the conversation off the dating site or app.

– Never send money or personal information to someone you’ve never met in person.

– Conduct an image search of the person’s profile picture to see if it has been used elsewhere online.

– Look for inconsistencies in their story, such as their age, location, or profession.

– Trust your instincts and be wary of anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable or pressured.

– Keep your personal information private and use a different email address and phone number for dating sites.

– Report suspicious behavior to the dating site or app, and consider blocking or reporting the person.
