Recently, a concerning trend has emerged in Delhi, shedding light on the involvement of women hired by shady cafes to carry out scams on dating apps. Numerous men have stepped forward to recount similar experiences, narrating instances where their online interactions on dating apps culminated in a first in-person meeting, only to be confronted with exorbitant bills for subpar food and drinks, all ordered by the women themselves. This fraudulent scheme, initially confined to Delhi, has now extended its reach to Pune, as evidenced by a recent account shared by a man who fell victim to it.

Journalist Deepika Bhardwaj took to a micro-blogging platform to shed light on the situation, sharing screenshots of the man’s bill and recounting his distressing experience. According to the man’s narrative, he connected with a Bumble date on September 30, and within two days, they agreed to meet at Gypsy Restro Bar. To his surprise, before they could even decide on their orders, the woman swiftly ordered a hookah and a bottle of wine, accumulating a staggering bill of Rs. 22,000. Stunned by the turn of events, the man found himself in a difficult situation when the woman threatened him.

She warned that if he refused to foot the bill, the bar staff would either damage his car, report him, or divulge their dating details to his family. Faced with these coercive tactics, he reluctantly paid the bill as demanded by the woman.
