Revolut has issued a fresh scam warning to Irish customers along with advice on how to avoid fraudsters.

The banking company alerted users about scam calls that aim to part people with their money.

The most common of these is criminals telling people the security of their accounts has been compromised and that their money should be moved into a new account.

Scammers will attempt to con consumers into thinking the call is coming from a genuine company and will apply pressure by making the issue sound urgent.

Revolut is urging Irish account holders to be “vigilant” and outlined what to do if people think they have been targeted by fraudsters.

Revolut has issued a new scam warning to Irish customers.

In an email to customers on Wednesday, Revolut said: “Criminals are targeting victims by pretending to be from Revolut, banks, tax authorities, and even Amazon.

“These scams often involve fraudsters telling you to move money into a new account due to a fraud or security issue.

“They usually make it sound urgent to pressure you. They can also change their phone numbers to make it look like you’re getting a call from a genuine company, so you need to stay vigilant.

“Revolut will never contact you over the phone without verifying ourselves first by sending you a message via your Revolut app.”

The company then issued the following advice:

  • “If someone calls you claiming to be from Revolut, hang up immediately. Then contact us via the in-app chat.
  • “Revolut and other firms will never tell you to move your money into a new account.
  • “Revolut and other firms will never instruct you to ignore scam payment warnings.
  • “Revolut will never tell you which buttons to press or ask you to download software so someone else can view your screen.”

It added: “If any of the above is happening to you, it’s likely that you’re being scammed.

“We may not be able to recover your money if it leaves your account, so please stop and contact us via the in-app chat before you proceed with making any payments to a new beneficiary that you suspect could be a scammer.”
