PHILIPPINES — A Singaporean businessman was killed after being shot by unidentified perpetrators in Lian town, Batangas Province on Monday (12 June) night.

Tutubi News Magazine, a Philippine media outlet, reported that Alfredo Anadia, deputy chief of the Lian Municipal Police Station, confirmed the murder case.

The victim was identified as 66-year-old Singaporean Chan Kin Tay.

Mr. Chan had been in the Philippines for approximately 30 years and was survived by his 49-year-old Filipino wife and their three children, aged 28, 17, and seven.

Lian is about three hours south of Manila by car.

Anadia said that Mr. Chan had just come from his grocery shop at Lian Public Market and was on his way home.

The assailants appeared and shot him at close range around 6:10 in the evening.

The elderly businessman sustained a head injury and was transported to a hospital in nearby Nasugbu town, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“There were no witnesses at the crime scene due to the cloudy weather, rain, and dark night,” according to Anadia.

Meanwhile, residents reported hearing gunshots in the area before the lifeless victim was discovered.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, looking into several leads, including the possibility of a domestic dispute or the involvement of a hired gunman in Mr. Chan’s killing.

In August 2015, another Singaporean man, 36-year-old  Stanley Jang who managed a computer company, was shot in the face by two men while working in his cubicle in Paranaque City, just south of Manila.
