Three septuagenarian siblings were bludgeoned to death in a Spanish village after falling victim to a romance scam involving fraudsters who posed as “lover boy” US soldiers.
Amelia, Ángeles and Pepe Gutiérrez were found dead in their home in the village of Morata de Tajuña, south of Madrid, in January. Their bodies were partially burnt.
Neighbours had raised the alarm after not seeing the two sisters and their disabled brother, aged between 71 and 79, for several weeks.
On Monday, police said Dilawar Hussain Choudhary, a 42-year-old Spanish citizen of Pakistani origin, had admitted to being the perpetrator of the triple murder and handed himself in.
He claimed he had lent the sisters at least 50,000 euros after they fell victim to the romance scam and that they never repaid the debt, prompting him to kill the pair and their brother.
