In case you missed it, there was a lot happening on the campus of West Texas A&M on Wednesday. According to news reports, officers from several agencies responded to what was thought to be a potential active shooter event. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case.
So, what exactly happened on the WT campus on Wednesday?
Going off of posts to social media made by the WT University Police Department, there were “threatening comments” being made by a student towards other students. They were bad enough that they warranted a response by law enforcement, who was prepared for an active shooter.
According to the WT University Police Department’s post on social media, there were rumors circulating via social media that there was an active shooter attacking the campus.
Fortunately, that was not the case. Law enforcement then began tracking down the individual who made the threats.
The post continues that after investigating it was determined that a terroristic threat had been made, and the suspect was eventually apprehended in Tulia by the Tulia PD.
You can see the post below.
What is interesting is going back through the series of events on the WT University Police Department’s Facebook page and reading the comments. There are those who are incredibly appreciative of the University Police Department. Others, while the series of events were transpiring, were more concerned and critical.
The University Police Department did mention that they do take all threats, and rumors of threats, seriously. Maybe, just so everyone from faculty to students are on the same page, this event will lead to discussions and the formation of even better procedures and policies in the future; in case something like this were to happen again.
There’s some strange things that happen here in the Texas Panhandle. And we do mean strange.
If you need a few examples….keep scrollin’ to see some of the wild, weird, and flat out odd things that our local hellions have gotten themselves into this year….so far.
Amarillo can be a rowdy place with some lawless characters. Here’s some of the biggest drug busts made in the Texas Panhandle for 2022, so far.
Let’s just say that these folks are in t-r-o-u-b-l-e.
