Viola Davis is, without a doubt, one of the greatest actors of our generation.
Aside from playing iconic roles like Professor Anneliese Keating, Rose Maxson and Ma Rainey, the actress has also earned an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, an Emmy, two Tonys and six Screen Actors Guild Awards. Plus, the legendary star made history as the first Black actor (and the youngest) to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting (a competitive Oscar, Emmy and Tony), but Davis’s talent goes far beyond her acting chops.
Last year, the Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom made headlines after releasing her memoir, Finding Me. But we’re curious to know: How much is the actress earning through her many projects? Here’s what we know about Viola Davis’s net worth.

1. What Is Viola Davis’s Net Worth?
Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Davis is currently worth $25 million. In 2020, Davis was listed by Forbes as the tenth highest-paid TV actress in the world, all thanks to seven-figure salaries from her work on Netflix’s How to Get Away with Murder and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Forbes revealed that she earned a total of $15.5 million—more than half her total net worth.
2. How Much Did Davis Earn On How to Get Away With Murder?
In 2016, Variety reported that Davis made about $250,000 per episode. With at least 15 episodes per season, this means that Davis was making $3.75 million on a yearly basis.
3. How Much Did Davis Make Through Her Films?
According to Forbes, a huge portion of her income came from Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, but she has also starred in a number of other successful films, including The Help, Fences, Widows, Prisoners, The Woman King and Black Adam. Her salaries for these roles haven’t been released, but we’re willing to bet she earned quite a few big paychecks through these projects.
4. What About Her Production Company?
Davis teamed up with her husband and producing partner, Julius Tennon, to launch JuVee Productions, a production company that, according to its official website, aims to become the “go-to creative hub where the next generation of filmmakers and artists have the space to craft dynamic stories spanning the broad spectrum of humanity.” In fact, you might recognize some of their projects, which include Amazon Prime’s Troop Zero, ABC’s The Last Defense and Bravo’s In a Man’s World.
It’s unclear how much Davis earned from her content, but judging by JuVee’s expanded deal with Amazon in 2020, it appears that even more paychecks are rolling in. Andrew T. Wang, the Head of TV Development and Production at JuVee, said in a statement, “Amazon has established itself as a home for artists who are passionate about changing the way that creative content looks and the stories that it tells. We are thrilled to bring JuVee into Amazon’s family of storytellers and to continue in our mission to provide a platform for compelling, original stories told by people from historically marginalized populations.”
5. And Her Memoir?
As mentioned above, Davis released a memoir called Finding Me in April 2022. According to AP News, Davis said, “I believe that our stories, and the courage to share them, is the most powerful empathetic tool we have. This is my story…straight, no chaser.”
HarperOne president Judith Curr also said, “Viola Davis is a powerful truth teller—through her work on stage and screen, as well as in her life. I’m looking forward to working with her on a book that powerfully reveals the risk and danger for a Black woman living in the fullness of her talents and gifts—and the reward and freedom that comes with it.”
Spoiler alert: It’s a page-turner—and it sold quite a few copies.
