What Times-Call readers said this week – Longmont Times-Call | #datingscams | #lovescams | #facebookscams

Here is a selection of comments on stories posted by the Times-Call on its Facebook page July 9-15, 2022.

Judge dismisses Costco lawsuit, plaintiffs ask reconsideration

Carly Taylor: Give us a Costco. We want it.

Cat Catherine: I hope this one has a liquor section like Timnath. Please!

Robert Cooper: Hooray! I can’t wait to see around 25% of Main Street biz fail for the gratification of a few troglodytes that think driving 20 minutes is too much work.

Laura Haines Emmons: It’s not shopping centers adding to the chaos, it’s all the houses, condos and apartments!

Ana Soto-Harrison: I like the idea about having a Costco in Longmont. Nevertheless, I think we also need some other kind of business/attractions for our young people. Or maybe the idea is to have to go to Loveland, Fort Collins or Boulder in order to have some fun? My daughter says there are not that many places here in Longmont for young people, and I think I agree with her on that. Just my 2 cents.

Rae McCartney: I like the open field.

Novella Maia: Why would anybody not want one?

Fixing the officiating shortage in Colorado is no easy task

Annie Gordon Perkins: Wow, athletics programs actually have to feel some pain like the arts programs have been experiencing forever?

Photos: Rock & Rails summer concert series

Matt Nicki Lautemann: This is always a great time!

Longmont police notes: Car/motorcycle crash, assaults

Ma Bee: I wonder how many that is now (accidents involving motorcycles). Serious uptick for sure. High cost of gas equals more motorcycles on the road.

Dan Patrick: Had fun watching this guy do wheelies all the way down the road and pass people on the shoulder. Just my experience, but I’m seeing more and more motorcycles ride like they are all invincible.

Coloradans want to fight climate change, but more will vote based on inflation, poll finds

Pam Leland: Inflation is temporary — and currently being experienced worldwide, for those who don’t pay attention to anything beyond themselves. Putin’s war on Ukraine is a huge driver — again, worldwide. Record corporate profits, thanks to price gouging, is another. It will pass. The chaos caused by climate disruption, however, needs far more concerted effort to address.

Truck driver sentenced to 12 years in prison for fatal crash west of Longmont

Jeffrey Justice: “What we struggle with, what I don’t understand, is how a man with his record was allowed another chance. I don’t understand why more wasn’t done to keep the community safe.” Exactly. The legal system is deeply flawed. Note the cases before that involved reckless, stoned or alcohol impaired drivers causing death and destruction that get off on light plea deals or pardons. Motor vehicles are weapons and that should reflect in sentencing guidelines.

Jenny Leonard: Been there, my step mom was killed in town by a habitual offender who got four years. Out in three, and he’s been back in jail many times since killing her. He didn’t learn one fricking thing. System is a joke at best!

Erin Finken: What confuses me is if he’s driving a dump truck he has to have a CDL and there’s no way you could maintain that with these tickets. Of course this case is devastating and you can’t bring back these young people. It just doesn’t add up.

Jason Kaminski: This sentence won’t bring their son back, but at least the Skokan family received some justice.

Johnnie St. Vrain: Whom to call about a dumped kitchen sink

Bella Valle: I mean if you notice it and are bothered by it, why not just fish it out yourself and help the earth yourself?

Thomas Lawson: Longmont definitely has a piggy problem. The road by the old sugar (factory) looks like a giant dump.

August West: Grab that rubbish and throw it in the dumpster, or don’t complain about it.

Choose your reality: Trust wanes, conspiracy theories rise

Bill Wilde: Here’s one for you! And I’m pretty sure I’m right about this. Donald Trump is a Democrat establishment sleeper agent sent to sabotage the country by being so crude and absolutely ridiculous that no matter what from now on in any election, people will now vote “against Trump,” instead of for whatever candidate. I’m talking school board level and up. He cemented the “vote blue no matter who” mentality into people to the point where they don’t even want or need to think about their candidate’s stances (on) the issues, just that they’re Democrat and “as long as it isn’t Trump!”

Michael Baraga: Social media hasn’t helped, nor (has) the misinformation/fear/hatemongering of the right-wing media outlets. Some people seem to love to live in fear and make irrational decisions.

Berthoud community helps raise more than $1,500 for Joyful Brews … following June break-in

Jeffrey Justice: That is a very nice community support effort. Sadly, break-ins, burglaries, shoplifting and returns scams are all part of the reality of being in the retail business. In my 20-plus years of retail it happened repeatedly. This could happen again. Alarms and security systems are helpful, but the damage is usually done by the time police arrive.

Chris Bowers: Growing up in Longmont, Berthoud was our Mayberry
