Yakima Police have identified the victim in Sunday’s fatal drive by shooting as 43-year-old Randy Scholl who police say was not a member of a local gang. Scholl died at a home in the 900 block of La Salle Street after being shot in the chest.

Police arrested two suspects who have made court appearances

After a chase and crash of the suspect vehicle two suspects were arrested, 16-year-old Abraham Garcia and 18-year-old David Cordero. Both face charges of first-degree murder, drive-by shooting, first-degree assault and eluding police. Yakima County Prosecutor Joe Brusic says the 18-year-old suspect made an appearance in Yakima County Superior Court on Monday where bail was set at $1 million. Because of his age the 16-year-old Garcia was automatically transferred to adult court. He made an appearance in Yakima County Superior Court Tuesday where his bail was set at $500,00.

Police were first called to the area at about 12:30 am Sunday

Police were called to the area at about 12:30 am Sunday for shots fired in the area. Police spotted the suspect vehicle and after a chase and crash the two suspects were arrested. During the chase a caller to 911 told police one person was shot in the chest and he was not breathing.
Officers rushed to the scene and immediately began first-aid and CPR on the 43-year-old Randy Scholl but he died at the scene.

Police aren’t saying who was actually targeted at the home by gang members

Seely says witnesses told officers the silver, Honda Accord slowly drove by the residence three times, circling the block each time. On the first and third pass the suspects fired from the vehicle, striking the residence and the victim, Scholl who was standing in the driveway of the home where he died.

The 18-year-old suspect also admitted his role in a previous homicide

A press release from Yakima Police says “during the interview, the 18-year-old admitted to his involvement in the shooting on LaSalle St, as well as, his involvement in the homicide of Joey Cantu on October 30, 2021, at 405 W Chestnut Street. The 18-year-old hasn’t yet been charged with last year’s west chestnut homicide.
The investigation continues Today.
