Indian Army asks personnel to delete 89 mobile apps

  • This came days after government banned 59 apps, mostly Chinese including TikTok, UC News and CamScanner amid the standoff with China.
  • Some of the 89 apps are among those which the Centre has already banned stating “they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order”.
  • The apps are divided into numerous categories like messaging apps, video hosting, contents sharing, web browsers, video and live streaming, utility apps, gaming apps, eCommerce apps, dating apps, news apps, lifestyle apps, music apps and blogging/micro blogging apps.

  • “I have spoken with Foreign Minister Jaishankar a number of times about this. The Chinese took incredibly aggressive action. The Indians have done their best to respond to that,” Pompeo said.
  • The US Secretary of State also criticised “General Secretary” Xi Jinping and said that the number of both maritime and boundary disputes that the Chinese Communist Party has engaged in is “unequalled anyplace else in the world”.
  • Pompeo slammed Chinese Communist Party for engaging in what he termed was “increasingly revisionist effort”. The US Secretary of State highlighted that with the spread of coronavirus, world has seen the true colours of Chinese Communist Party.

‘World must not allow China to instigate territorial disputes’: Pompeo

  • The Chinese Communist Party has an “enormous credibility problem”, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo.
  • “From the mountain ranges of the Himalayas to the waters of Vietnam’s Exclusive Zone, to the Senkaku Islands, and beyond, Beijing has a pattern of instigating territorial disputes. The world shouldn’t allow this bullying to take place, nor should it permit it to continue,” Pompeo said.
