Diabolique Paris Johnson, 34, has been charged with the murder of a 39-year-old videographer
An Indianapolis rapper and porn star, 34, has been charged with the murder of a 39-year-old videographer after he allegedly targeted members of the LGBTQ community through dating apps before robbing them at gunpoint.
Diabolique Paris Johnson is accused of shooting dead Joshua J. Smelser inside the victim’s home in Detroit back in September.
Johnson, who goes by the rap name Chuck Da MF Buck, is also accused of carrying out a separate armed robbery of a 26-year-old man at a hotel in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn four days earlier.
Both victims are members of the LGBTQ community and were located and targeted by the suspect through online dating apps, authorities said.
Johnson allegedly shot and killed Smelser inside his home in the 16800 block of Woodbine Street on the city’s west side during an armed robbery on September 5.
Detroit police were called to reports of multiple shots fired at the property at around 10pm that night.
Neighbors said they heard gunfire followed by a person leaving the house with Smelser’s backpack, which contained his laptop, credit cards and phone, reported Click on Detroit.
Two neighbors said they tried to pursue the suspect but lost him.
Officers found Smelser with fatal gunshot wounds inside his home and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four days earlier on September 1, Johnson allegedly committed an armed robbery of the 26-year-old male, who has not been named, at a hotel in the 24130 block of Michigan Avenue in Dearborn.
The suspect made off with some of the man’s personal property.
Police said both victims were targeted because they were members of the LGBTQ community.

Smelser, a videographer who was known for his love of animals and music, had only moved to Detroit six months before his death.
His devastated father Steven told Click on Detroit in the days after his killing that his son ‘was such a kind and caring person that had friends all over the world.’
His son’s alleged killer is a self-proclaimed rapper who goes by the name Chuck Da MF Buck.
Johnson’s YouTube channel, which has just 15 subscribers, features a handful of rap songs and an album called ‘Eyes Wide Shut.’
The album photo shows Johnson posing with a pistol. His social media pages also contain several images of him holding guns.
Johnson also features in several porn movies on Pornhub under the name Chuck Da Dollasign.
The net closed in on Johnson following an investigation involving Wayne County Prosecutors and the Fair Michigan Justice Project (FMJP), an organization that helps law enforcement investigate serious crimes against members of the LGBTQ community.

Fair Michigan President Alanna Maguire described the suspect’s targeting of LGBTQ men ‘troubling’.
‘It is troubling that the perpetrator of these vicious acts apparently used online dating apps to locate and target his victims,’ Maguire said in a statement.
‘Michigan’s LGBTQ communities know that the Fair Michigan Justice Project, along with Michigan’s county prosecutors and law enforcement officials, stand ready to aggressively investigate and prosecute these brutal crimes.’
The investigation comes less than two years after Attorney General Dana Nessel created a Hate Crimes Unit to investigate hate crimes including those targeting victims due to their sexual orientation or identity.
As part of this, her office offers support to county prosecutors with hate crime cases.
Nessel said in a press release that this case is the first joint undertaking between the unit and Wayne County Prosecutor Kim Worthy’s office.

‘I’m proud to stand with Prosecutor Worthy and the Fair Michigan Justice Project to announce these charges today. It’s my hope that this case marks the beginning of a long partnership focused on providing justice to some of our most vulnerable communities,’ Nessel said.
Worthy said her office will continue to work the FMJP on the case.
‘It is my pleasure to announce that our recent agreement with Attorney General Dana Nessel that will allow us to receive assistance from her office on FMJP cases.
‘I am also pleased to announce that veteran Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor LaDonna Logan will be working with FMJP to prosecute these important cases,’ Worthy said.
Johnson was charged with one count of armed robbery on September 21 over the September 1 incident at the hotel but remained at large for more than two months.
He was finally arrested in Indianapolis on December 4 and extradited to Michigan this week.
Johnson was then charged Tuesday with one count of first-degree murder and one count of felony firearm over the slaying of 39-year-old Smelser, the Wayne County prosecutor’s office said.
Johnson was arraigned on the armed robbery charge Wednesday and is set to be arraigned on the other charges Thursday in the 36th District Court in Detroit.
