Authorities have charged a North Wildwood man with attempted human trafficking of a child after he allegedly tried to meet for sex with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl.

Robert C. Reinhart, 52, contacted an undercover investigator with the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office who was posing as an adult woman with access to her 14-year-old sister. The agent had posted an ad on an online dating site, according to court documents.

During a text message chat that began in January, Reinhart offered to pay $300 to have sex with the child in Gloucester County, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The chats continued into March, when Reinhart tried to arrange a meeting with the child at a location in West Deptford Township. He allegedly told the undercover investigator that he would rent a room at a local hotel and bring condoms.

He also agreed to meet the woman and her sister for dinner.

The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force arrested Reinhart at his home on Monday. In addition to the first-degree human trafficking charge, he was charged with luring of a child and attempted sexual assault, both second-degree offenses.

He was placed in Salem County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.

Acting Gloucester County Prosecutor Christine A. Hoffman reminded parents to remain vigilant of kids’ online activities.
