Locals commend San Antonio man who biked nearly 20 miles to his girlfriend’s house | #speeddating | #tinder | #pof | #blackpeoplemeet

You know how the age-old saying goes, “If you love someone, bike 20 miles in a non-bike-friendly city to spend time with them” – or something like that.

Reddit user u/dtizzle0510, who said his name is Darnell, took to the social media site Monday to share his trek – yes, a literal one – to go visit his beloved.

“Biked from my [apartment] to my girl’s house,” Darnell said in the post, which included a screenshot with all the details of his cycling ride. “My workout for the day!!!!”

According to the post, Darnell biked 18.82 miles in an hour and 54 minutes. With an average speed of 9.9 mph, he burned roughly 1,394 calories during the ride.

“I’ve been wanting to do it for awhile now but just wasn’t sure on when to do it,” Darnell told MySA.com. “This was my first time doing it and I would do it again.”

Darnell said his decision to finally take the ride was largely based on the decrease in traffic due to the holiday as well as the weather being right for the occasion. He said that he rode from his apartment near Wurzbach Parkway and Blanco Road, an area which has a bikeable score of 65, and rode down Wurzbach Parkway until he hit Bandera Road. He rode all the way down until he hit Grissom Road and kept going until he hit Culebra Road. His trek ended once he reached his girlfriend’s home – which is well outside Loop 1604.

Despite the busy journey that his ride sounds like, Darnell said his ride was “fun,” even though he wouldn’t consider himself an avid rider. Though he had to deal with a series of hills on Wurzbach Parkway, Darnell said the ride was made easier by there being sidewalks the entire way, even if they were narrow at some points.

But wait – there’s more! As if riding his bike across town wasn’t enough, Darnell said his very active display of love for his girlfriend Leslie was actually a surprise.

“When I arrived at her house I [sent] the screenshot of my route to her,” Darnell told MySA. He said Leslie was excited by his physical feat, but didn’t realize that he was ridden to her home. Darnell said it was at that point that he rang her doorbell.

On Reddit, plenty of users were quick with the jokes.

“When your girl text you her parents aren’t home and your car is in the shop,” teased u/aron2295.

“Also her – “What the hell is taking him so long!? He said he was on his way!’” added u/SauceBoss173.

Some users expressed their concern about a cross-city trek or gave credit where credit is due.

“Congrats on making it there alive,” quipped u/bareboneschicken.

“I hope you showered when you got there,” said a nosey u/ChiefMilesObrien.

“Not the safest roads to be a cyclist on. Especially Wurzbach!” said u/shrek_girl. “As someone who [used] to live in Alamo Ranch and off Blanco/Wurzbach, the drive itself is long. As a fellow cyclist, I commend you.”

“Dang bro. That looks like a long VIA bus ride, I can’t [imagine] it on a bike,” said u/gameface202020.

Naturally, the hopeless romantics made themselves known.

“This made me laugh because when my bf and I first started dating we lived about this far from each other and his car was broken, so he’d walk like halfway and ride the bus the other half to meet me at my apartment,” shared u/kitkatxxo.

“Ohhh you love her love her!” said an excited u/StockkBarber210.

Honestly though, how many of us can say we’d ride our bike across town for the one we love? Leslie, Darnell sure sounds like a keeper.
