Fans around the country have missed the popular ITV2 reality show, Love Island, best known for its controversial stars including Molly-Mae Hague, Yewande Biala and Shaugna Phillips among others.

Host Laura Whitmore, who’s currently expecting her first child with husband Iain Stirling, spilled the beans that the show would be returning while chatting with The Telegraph’s Stella magazine.

She said: “I have been told that it’s coming back. I love doing it, it’s such a fun show.”

“And I actually think it’s been good to have had that break, for everyone who works on it, because we all went through a loss.”

“It’s nice to realise how much people missed the show. Apparently, applications are crazy this year.”

“Let’s just pray the vaccines kick in.”

However, Dame Carolyn McCall, chief executive of ITV, told the BBC’s The Media Show she does not have a date for Love Island’s return to TV screens.

She said: “We will want to put Love Island on air because it’s been off air for a while.

“We didn’t do it last summer.

“We are looking at all our options at the moment because I think the pandemic makes it hard.”

Good news could be on the cards for Love Island fans following the government’s plans to ease the country out of lockdown.
