Man arrested in alleged romance scam of Sunshine Coast woman

Police in B.C. have arrested a man who they allege scammed tens of thousands of dollars from a Sunshine Coast woman in a romance scam.

Sunshine Coast RCMP said it began investigating Michael Paul Snow, 53, in June 2023 after a woman reported a man she met online had stolen $110,000 from her.

Over several months, Snow “gained this woman’s trust and convinced her to participate in a business venture that was later learned to be non-existent,” alleged police in a news release.

During the investigation, several more victims were identified.

According to court documents, Snow was charged with one count of fraud over $5,000 for an offence allegedly committed on Oct. 6, 2022, in Sechelt.

A Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest. He was found and arrested by Saskatchewan police on June 24.

Snow has since been released and is scheduled to appear in Sechelt provincial court on Aug. 13.

Police are asking anyone who may have had fraudulent business dealings with Snow to contact Sunshine Coast RCMP at 604-885-2266.
