Matthew Buckland, the man wanted by Charlottesville Police on a rape charge captured in Prince William County on Wednesday, is also the subject of an ongoing investigation in the Valley, according to Staunton Police Department.
A search warrant obtained by WHSV’s sister station WCAV shows police obtained the 21-year-old’s phone after he was accused by a Mary Baldwin student of sexual assault on campus and filming the incident.
Within 24 hours of the report, the university notified students via email, in compliance with the Clery Act.
The alert included several safety tips.
“To trust their instincts, to make sure they have a safe way to get home,” said Liesel Crosier, the Director of News and Media Relations at MBU. “Particular, to use extreme caution when using online dating apps.”
The alleged victim met Buckland on a social dating app, according to the search warrant.
