Midtown Psychics Who Stole From Clients Are Sentenced | #relationshipscams | #dating

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A Midtown psychic convicted of stealing more than $1 million from her clients was sentenced to probation on Thursday, years after she was first busted by a private investigator.

Ann Thompson, who went by “Psychic Zoe,” operated out of a building on West 35th Street, near Seventh Avenue.

In 2013, Thompson gave a $5 palm reading to a Canadian woman who had turned to the fortune teller because she was experiencing relationship troubles. The psychic claimed she had powers passed down through her Cherokee heritage and told the woman she was one of the most cursed people she has ever seen, the victim said in a statement.

With that began a years-long con in which the victim paid Thompson thousands of dollars through 2017, she claimed.

“I can’t stress enough how convincing Zoe was and how threatening she made everything seem,” the woman, who wish to remain anonymous, said in a statement in 2018. “I honestly believed that I, and all my loved ones, were facing grave danger and/or death if I didn’t follow her every instruction. All the while she demanded my complete trust.”

In the ensuing years, Thompson convinced the woman to fork over money that she used to buy gold bricks, gold coins and jewelry the psychic claimed she needed for rituals, according to Bob Nygaard, a private investigator later hired by the victims. Thompson claimed the rituals would give the victim “spirit armor” to protect herself and her family from curses and demons, Nygaard said.

All told, Thompson and another psychic, Sarah Demitro, stole more than $1 million from clients, the Daily News reported.

Thompson was arrested in 2018, two years after victims hired Nygaard, who specializes in psychic scams. She and Demitro leader pleaded guilty for participating in the fraud scheme.

The pair had their five-year probation sentence handed down Thursday by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Gregory Carro. As part of a plea deal, Thompson and Demitro both agreed to pay their victims more than $200,000, the New York Post reported.

Still, victims were outraged that the pair avoided jail time and protested that the repayment covered only a fraction of the money Thompson stole, according to the Daily News.
