New Dating App Puts Your Friends In Control Of Your Love Life

Online dating can be rough. If you’re truly looking for someone special, it can feel more like a Sisyphean task than a fun left-right-left-right swiping game.

But when the going gets tough, you can always rely on your friends, especially with the genius new dating app Wingman, which allows your friends to pick the dates for you!

Created by London-based Tina Wilson, Wingman isn’t exactly a dating, but more of a matchmaking app. All the bits and pieces that are typically seen on dating apps – such as profile pictures or descriptions – are in the hands of your wingman or wingwoman.

During an interview with Mashable, Wilson explained that the app was inspired by her own experience of being single while most of her friends who were already paired off tried to pull her into the world of online dating. She resisted, so they took it upon themselves to search for different dating sites.

The app pulls information from your Facebook account, while also allowing your friend the option to write a fantastic (hopefully) review. While the app gives your friends most of the power, you can still see what’s written on your profile just in case your friends enjoy trolling you.

Wilson describes the app as a “breathalyzer test,” which offers you and your friends the opportunity to discuss your (poor) choices. Sometimes your friends do know what’s best for you.

In the event that you find a hottie that you want to get with, the app also gives you the opportunity to “nudge” your wingperson so they can see you’re interested.

However, it’s up to your friend to decide whether or not that person is a good fit. In case you get rejected, you won’t even know either!

The app also has a leaderboard that displays which wingman is doing the best for their singles. So if you want to be the greatest matchmaker of all, it definitely doesn’t hurt to try to make an effort.
